The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) is one of the oldest drama schools in the United Kingdom.
LAMDA examinations are designed to equip candidates, whatever their age or aspirations, with a range of skills that will serve them throughout life. The range of exam options supports progression and allows the candidate to extend personal and vocational skills whilst realising their potential.
LAMDA examinations are for those students who wish to take their theatremonkeys training a little further in either Acting, Verse and Prose or Musical Theatre. LAMDA exams are highly regarded at all levels and higher level LAMDA examinations can be used to obtain UCAS points for university entry.
theatremonkeys are very proud of their 100% pass rate and consistently high marks.
Subjects
Musical Theatre For The Actor/Singer
This exam focuses primarily on the performance of a song in its context. It teaches good singing technique and allows the student to develop as a performer whilst learning popular songs from the musicals. I have found these to be highly enjoyable exams as the teacher and student are free to choose their own material and enter into a discussion on their character, the mood of the piece and its context. Candidates will learn two contrasting songs to present to the examiner. These can be entered as a solo or as a duo.
Verse And Prose
These exams are primarily focused towards 5-8 year olds. They develop clear speech, communication skills and imagination. Candidates will learn one or two poems to recite to the examiner as well as discuss their choices and demonstrate a clear understanding of the text.
Acting
LAMDA examinations in Acting are designed to develop the skills necessary to communicate dramatic text to an audience. These exams are for children of 8 years and upwards. They can perform either monologues or dualogues taken from children's drama. The exams teach good acting and performance technique and are great for building confidence and knowledge of the performance process.
