KYLIE MINOGUE DANCER VISITS THEATREMONKEYS!! In February professional dancer Nikki Trow visited children at theatremonkeys to give a dance workshop and insight into the exciting world of commercial dance. Nikki has toured the world as Kylie Minogue's backing dancer and also danced for many pop acts including Cheryl Cole, JLS and the latest contestants on ITV's X Factor.

In a theatremonkeys weekly class the emphasis is on fun and enjoyment whilst learning exciting and rewarding new skills and gaining confidence and self-esteem.
Each class is split into tuition in singing, dance and drama and children are divided by age in order to gain the most from the classes. A session lasts for an hour and a half (6-9 yrs) and an hour and 45 minutes (9-16 years)
Good vocal and dance technique is encouraged and taught which is essential in the education of any young performer. We also encourage good discipline within our class structure.
Training activities include:
A dance warm-up
A vocal warm- up
Drama games and warm- ups
Choreographed dance routines
Vocal tuition (including harmonies)
Directed script work and improvised drama pieces.
Performance opportunities:
Full-scale productions. These are performed with costumes, sound and lighting in a theatre. Past productions include: The Wizard of Oz, High School Musical, Grease, Mamma Mia, We Will Rock You.
Demonstrations. These are mini-shows in which teachers introduce each piece and explain how it was taught and the techniques that were learnt.
Outside Events. Wherever we can we like to get the children involved in outside performances where we can show the community our work and gain confidence from performing in different venues.
Guest Teachers:
At least once a year visiting artists are brought in to give workshops on varied subjects such as pop singing, commercial dancing and musical theatre. theatremonkeys are lucky to have professional links to West End shows and the pop industry. Past visitors have included actors from Emmerdale, Starlight Express, Top of The Pops and Grange Hill. Progress:
Parents can keep in touch with their child’s progress by coming to watch end of term shows and via reports from the teaching staff. The principal is always on hand to discuss any queries regarding your child’s progress. Uniform:
At theatremonkeys we insist on our students wearing a uniform so that we look smart and professional and so that we can dance safely in the correct footwear and clothing.
